Inside the Webinar: Automating MVS and WFM Testing for Infor Workforce Management Users
A look back at our joint session with Infor on why workforce management testing gets cut first — and how automation puts it back on the roadmap without blowing the budget.
TestAssure teamed up with Infor for a live session on a problem most workforce management teams know all too well: WFM testing is essential, expensive to do manually, and almost always the first thing cut when a project moves from scoping to budget. But this is an oversight that can have negative (and costly) repercussions.
Keep reading or watch the webinar recording to learn how automated WFM testing can decrease testing time, improve Infor WFM configuration accuracy during an implementation, help companies maintain compliance after go-live, and prevent costly errors through the entire WFM lifecycle.
Why WFM testing keeps losing the budget fight
Michael Gondek of Infor has spent 25 years scoping, quoting, and running WFM projects, and his takeaway to kick off the webinar was blunt: successful implementations hinge on two things — proper discovery and proper testing — and those tend to be the two line items that get trimmed when a budget is tight.
That gap is what pulled Infor and TestAssure together as partners: a way to protect the testing budget by making testing dramatically cheaper and faster to run.
What makes WFM testing difficult
The session named a few compounding pressures that make testing so crucial (and so difficult) for many organizations:
- Constantly shifting policy and compliance rules like state-level updates (for example, Florida make two or three system updates a year)
- Union contract updates
- The pace of change in the underlying technology itself (software releases and patches)
In fact, a recent study found that 53% of companies reported a payroll error with a financial penalty as a reason organizations are re-evaluating whether they have the resources to stay in compliance.
This is why testing is so vital to any WFM team.
Two ways TestAssure fits into a WFM program
There are typically two entry points into a WFM testing program.
1. New implementations
For teams standing up Infor's WFM platform for the first time, testing responsibility often falls to the customer even when Infor's project team is leading implementation. TestAssure partners alongside that implementation team to take the testing burden off internal staff, cut the time required, and free the team to focus on the rest of the rollout — particularly useful for organizations with limited resources or no repeatable testing process to fall back on.
2. Ongoing regression and compliance testing
Once an instance is set up, it can run indefinitely — which is where many customers really start to see the value over time. Common triggers for testing include mergers and acquisitions, operating in high-compliance states like California or New York, union contract renegotiations, and Infor's own periodic system updates, each of which can be re-tested automatically to confirm nothing broke. Many TestAssure customers run testing on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to keep up with the pace of constant change.
How TestAssure works
Technically, TestAssure sits on top of the WFM platform and executes tests via API using super-user-level access — a no-code, out-of-the-box connection that doesn't require ongoing maintenance. The platform builds a test "persona" representing a real employee, assigns them a schedule and a set of punches, sends that through to Infor, and compares Infor's calculated results against what's expected. The results are clear: up to a 90% reduction in testing time and finding up to 10 times more defects than manual processes typically catch.
Manual testing vs. automated testing
The manual testing alternative many WFM teams are used to include standing up a test employee by hand, assigning rules and calc groups, adding punches to a time card, and checking the results — a process that can take hours for just a handful of scenarios.
Inside TestAssure, that same work is organized around two building blocks in every test case:
- Personas — sample employees configured to mirror a real worker: calc group, pay group, location, and the rules tied to them.
- Automated actions — the steps the test executes through the API on that persona's behalf, such as assigning a schedule, adding punches, or applying a schedule override, followed by the expected result to check against.
Test cases live in a folder-based library. Out-of-the-box sample test cases are included to get teams started, covering common scenarios like daily and weekly overtime, and teams can build on top of them or write their own using the available automated actions. The library also covers MVS scenarios, including schedule compliance checks and validating that an assigned schedule pays out correctly.

Test cases are grouped into test plans, which can run on a schedule — daily, weekly, biweekly — with results and links emailed out automatically once a run completes. Every step in a test case is validated independently, so a passing run shows a green check at each stage, while a failure narrows down exactly where things diverged. Each test also produces a real (non-production) employee record in Infor that teams can open directly to see exactly what happened, along with a run history for that test case over time.
For teams running at scale, a single test case typically takes 5–10 seconds to execute vs. minutes; a batch of 20,000 test cases runs in roughly 7–8 hours, compared with an estimated half a year or more if run manually.
To help teams triage large result sets, the platform includes an AI-powered tool that groups failures by root cause across test cases — useful in interlocked WFM systems where one broken rule can surface as failures in several places at once.
Beyond MVS and timekeeping, the platform also covers shift-based scheduling, schedule templates, crew rules, and broader time and attendance checks — including whether timecards populate correctly and employees are assigned to the right groups to be paid accurately.
